Important that Scottish Parliament debated #16DaysOfActivism to end violence against women and girls. In Scotland between 2019 and 2020, we had the highest number of domestic abuse charges since 2015-16.
Around 4 in 5 incidents of domestic abuse had a female victim and a male accused – a proportion which has remained stable since 2011-12.
Disabled women are twice as likely to experience domestic abuse as nondisabled women and BME women face statistically significant greater risk of experiencing abuse, with 50% experiencing abuse from multiple perpetrators.
More needs to be done ensure that all women feel supported in their fight against gender-based violence.
