Last week, we had an excellent briefing from NHS Lothian and we’re given the following information regarding the vaccine rollout.
As supply of the Pfizer vaccine is limited, in the first Wave of the vaccination plan which will run until the end of January 2021, we will see the following groups being given priority:
- Vaccinators
- Care home residents and staff working in residential homes for the elderly
- Healthcare staff (including GP, Dental, Pharmacy and Optometry contractors) in direct face-to-face contact with patients with a focus on those working in COVID19 red zones and those aged over 60
- Long-stay NHS patients aged over 80
The second Wave will be delivered between February and March 2021 and will include the groups below:
- All those 75 to 79 years of age
- All those 70 to 74 years of age
- All those 65 to 69 years of age
- High/Moderate risk adults over 65 years of age
From April 2021 onwards, the rest of the population will be vaccinated starting from the people over 60 to 64 years of age followed by all those 55 to 59 years, those 50 to 54 years of age and finally the rest of population – 18 years and over.
