Yesterday, I called for an increase in capital spend for our councils. This is vital if we want to #BuildBackBetter, support our communities, protect jobs & invest in social housing, schools & zero carbon infrastructure. From a high point of 27%, capital has been cut to 12% – at a time when we need new investment in our communities. Our councils are desperately trying to survive over a decade of underfunding, with £937 million of cuts to non-core funding – austerity from the Tory Government which was passed on & deepened by the SNP.
